FOREST MAPPING
The hilly terrain at 200 m to 650 m above sea level is a perfect habitat for the Slavonian sessile oak (Quercus petraea). The mountain ridges, slate rocks and dry, acidic, shallow and lean soil can hardly be expected to generate a high annual growth rate, but they do produce an exceptionally tight-grained sessile oak. This tall loner stands the test of time and often grows in solitude, but in places with more favorable conditions it can be found accompanied by other forest dwellers such as beech, ash tree, locust tree and black alder.
