FOREST LOCATIONS
Papuk Mountain is the highest Slavonian peak with well-preserved forest-covered slopes up to 350 m above sea level. This micro-location is a source of high quality Slavonian sessile oak (Quercus petraea), but its soil is much leaner, and contains limestone, marl, clay and loess. Besides a poorer soil, this micro-location has characteristic alternations between wet and dry seasons, which are stressful for sessile oak trees, resulting in their lower and more concentrated growth rate.
